The music began softly & slowly, and then started to build just as it has time & time again. It’s a song I’ve heard – and sung – hundreds of times. It’s on playlists I’ve created and plays regularly on the radio station that’s on in my car 99% of the time. It’s moved me before, and I’ve always loved the lyrics but there was something about the way I heard it this time. Funny how you can all of a sudden get something new from something so familiar, right?
The music began softly & slowly, and then started to build just as it has time & time again. But this time… the first line hit me like a ton of bricks.
You call me out upon the waters
I don’t know why I’d sung right over this before. I guess I’d always just jumped to the next lines without really thinking of how it all starts:
The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep
My faith will stand
In all the times I’ve sung along before, I felt the message that in the scary times, the times of doubt, the times of feeling like I’m out on my own in a situation that I can not survive, much less thrive, I’m not alone. He is there with me to keep me afloat. But this time… I heard the call.
Those scary times, the ones of doubt & being in new situations, the times of uncertainty and growth and faith… He called me there. I didn’t just wander out into the deep, into the mystery. He called me there. It starts with Him calling me.
It starts with Him calling me.
And that makes the doubt, the uncertainty, the deep, the mystery not so scary at all. Because I may not know what the plan is, but He does, and He’s with me. And that makes all the difference.
