I hope y’all had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday full of delicious food, laughter, family and maybe a little football too! On a day that tends to be full of a flurry of activity in cooking, washing dishes, traveling or scrambling for the best seat on the couch, we take time to be thankful for our blessings, but it’s often not enough.
In this day after Thanksgiving, a day that tends to be filled with scrambling to get the best deals on material things, I want to make a point to remember to continue being really mindful of all that I am thankful for.
I love that Thanksgiving reminds us to really take stock of our lives and intentionally list all of our blessings – big & small. It reminds us to step back from focusing on our challenges and frustrations and put our attention to the good in our lives. Wouldn’t life be so much better if we kept that focus all year-long?
Instead of thinking about how run-down your apartment/house is, focus on the people under that roof.
Instead of thinking about how you have zero “social life” because you’re too busy taking care of your little ones all day, everyday, focus on the fact that you’re getting to spend precious time with them in these years that will so quickly be gone.
Instead of looking at someone else’s career achievements, focus on the distance you’ve come so far and the blessing of getting your valuable experience without being under the microscope of major success.
Instead of longing for the next phase of your life, focus on the people, places, lessons and opportunities available to you in the here and now.
Instead of wondering why God hasn’t answered certain prayers, focus on His wisdom and provision in your life so far.
So here’s to all of our blessings, big & small.
Here’s to making each day one of Thanksgiving.
And here’s to y’all – I am so thankful for each and every one of you who support me through reading & commenting on the blog!
Well said, as usual! Happy Thanksgiving to you and the family too. Red Raiders helped make it a great day also!!!!
