Ever since our first Halloween after Peanut was born, we’ve all worn costumes that tie into a particular theme. That first year was a mouse (Peanut), a cat (me), and a piece of cheese (my oh-so-amazing husband who is willing to go along with all this silliness each year).
The past few years, Peanut was able to choose our theme/characters & ended up being the star of the show – Moana (while I was the ocean, Max was Maui and Pumpkin was the Heart of Te Fiti), and then Doc McStuffins (with the rest of us rounding out the cast as Lambie, Chilly & Hallie).
This year? It was Pumpkin’s turn to shine! She got to choose the “theme,” and decided she wanted to be Ariel, so we were all characters from The Little Mermaid! It ended up getting really cold just before Halloween, but Pops happened to buy the girls the comfiest jackets in the perfect colors to go under their costumes, so we made it work!
Peanut was Ariel’s best friend, Flouder, of course!! My big girl was such a good sport about not being the main character, and was quite happy to wear both of her fins!
Max got to be Prince Eric, and the girls decided I needed to be Ursula… not sure how I feel about them deciding Daddy should be royalty & I should be a sea witch, but we went for it & the girls LOVED it! (A quick side note – please remind me next year to figure out a costume that doesn’t require hair paint…. the removal process takes too long lol!!)
The photos we got of these two together just melt. my. heart. I love how much my girls love their daddy!
Had to include this one to prove it’s not always all smiles & fun for the Holmes Family Circus on Halloween! (Though they’re usually really happy & willing to indulge in my requests for photos…. after all the time I spend making these costumes, I want to be sure we have photos for them to look back on when they’re grown!)
If you happen to come to my house in the next 4 years or so… I’m pretty sure you’ll still be able to find some of that blue glitter from Peanut’s tutu scattered all around the house. It came off SO much & it’s everywhere!!!
As I was trying to take her photo, Pumpkin decided she needed to pose like a Mermaid… this is what we got.
LOVE their joyful little hearts! I don’t really love Halloween, but it’s been so much fun to do these family costumes & I don’t know how many more years they’ll let us do it, so it means the world to see them enjoy it so much!
The way she looks at him!!! Definitely her prince!
These are a bit more realistic… Max not being able to quit laughing looking at my crazy Ursula eyebrows/hair/makeup, Pumpkin’s wig falling off, and the girls going off on their own little posing whim & me just having to laugh about all our chaos. Wouldn’t want to do life with anyone other than our little circus!
Pumpkin was quite into singing like Ariel (like the photo below) & kept touching my “necklace” & telling me to steal her voice – worth all the wild make up to see my little one feel like she was really living in a movie for a little while!
Sweet girl, you made a wonderful little mermaid!
