My 2020 Word of the Year

Once again this year (with the help of my Powersheets!), I’ve chosen a word to use as a guiding light of sorts for my year. I have loved how this practice gives me a way to re-center myself and focus throughout the year. It’s a home base for making decisions. It’s a place to come back to when I feel pulled in way too many directions & need to rein things in a bit. It’s a reminder of where I want to place my time & energy as the days, weeks & months progress throughout 2020. My word of the year is a tool for reaching the goals I’ve set & for continuing to become the person I want to be.

This year, I am going to do my best to slow down a bit and be fully present in the areas of my life. I’ve been focused a lot on achieving, growing, changing, and while that hustle & growth & change is good, I think it’s also slowly taken away some of my joy. It’s taken away from the positivity I used to live life with. It’s sometimes led me to put more pressure on myself than was necessary. There have been a LOT of good results from those words/goals, but this year I felt I needed something different.

This year, I’m making time to get back to simpler things.

More coffee dates (or wine dates!), less hustle.
More quality time, less distraction.
More time with loved ones, less time checking social media likes.
More conversations with God, Max, my girls, my family, and my friends, less time wasted in stress, worry & mindless scrolling.
More enjoyment of simple, everyday pleasures, less pressure to “go big” & create perfect, highlight reel kind of experiences.

This year, I am reclaiming my joy, my optimism, and my purpose. My word of the year for 2020? That’s how I’m reclaiming those things… through CONNECTION.

In my personal and spiritual life, that means quality time with God and with loved ones. It means intentionally creating white space/margin in my schedule to allow for activities that bring me joy & allow deep, meaningful rest for my heart. It means connecting with myself through self-care and then not feeling guilty afterward for spending time just for me.

In my business, it means really connecting with my purpose for my business. It means choosing to focus even more on loving my clients well & building relationships with them. On making them feel seen, validated, worthy, confident, beautiful. It means connecting to systems that allow me to do that better, AND free up more time in my life for the quality time, self-care & the activities I love.

Tell me, do you choose a word for the year? If so, I’d love to hear what yours is & why you chose it!!
