Family Portraits, Personal

Time to Practice What I Preach!

It’s that time of year again for family photos… and instead of just taking them for other people, we are getting ours done! I think it’s so funny (and a little sad) how often photographers don’t make a point of getting their own portraits done. It’s so easy to get caught up in planning family photos for others or designing and ordering Christmas cards for others that we tend to forget our own families.

Not this year! We are getting our family portraits done this afternoon, and as always, I’m feeling the little bit of anxiety that goes along with a shoot. (Cracks me up how I am so sure of wardrobe choices when I discuss them with my clients or help them pick out their outfits, and then when it comes time to pick out our clothes I suddenly have a hard time!)

I’m thankful for this though. It’s good to practice what I preach. To not only say, but show how important it is to document your family as it grows and changes. It’s good to have a more direct reminder that my clients are a little anxious. It’s good to be on the other side of the lens every once in a while.

I’m also excited to have updated portraits of our little family. Lynsey did such a great job with our photos last time, and I’m excited to see how Peanut does now that she is older. The hustle and bustle around us last year led to pretty much nothing but the serious “figure it out” face from our little one – which I kind of love since she made that face all the time at that stage!
