Movie Challenge, Personal

Movie Challenge – April

Max and I have had a monthly movie quota/program/challenge for a long time now. We had been talking about how there were so many movies that we had wanted to see, and never got around to it, so we decided to do something about it.

We challenged ourselves to watch at least three new movies a month  – but they had to be movies neither of us had seen before. He gets to pick one, I get to pick one, and then we pick one that we both want to see. Most of the time we end up getting movies from Redbox or Netflix, but sometimes we actually make a point to go see a movie in theaters.

I’ve decided to kinda keep track of the movies we choose each month, so here we go with April:

His pick:

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Max is the one who has actually seen/followed all of the Marvel movies, so I think he enjoyed this one a little more than I did. It was entertaining, but if I’m watching a Marvel movie, I’d rather it have Thor in it… Seriously. I could watch that man all day!

My Pick:

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

After reading The Hunger Games book series, I’ve wanted to see all three movies. I’m glad I had more time between reading the book and seeing the movie for this second round – with the first one, I saw the movie about an hour and a half after finishing the book… definitely not enough time. I was driving myself nuts mentally cataloging all the ways in which the movie was different from the book. Overall, not the greatest movie I’ve ever seen, but I did enjoy it.

Our Pick:

American Hustle

American Hustle

I know this one hit it big with the awards ceremonies, but I have to say I wasn’t thrilled with it. The acting was great – that I can agree with… but I just couldn’t really get into it. I can handle some wild-card, out there characters, but this movie had only wild-card, out there characters. Just a little too much for me. Again, well acted though!
