A Full Heart and a Wonderful Weekend

This weekend was wonderful! Nothing huge or out of the ordinary happened, but I just had this wonderful feeling of contentment and a full heart all weekend long.

Things started with date night on Friday. A date night that included wings and a cold beverage. And shopping. Yes, shopping. My sweet husband even suggested we go take a look in Kirkland’s at one point. WHAT?! Toss a few points into the marital capital bank for that one.

Saturday started with quality time as a family, and then I got to go help out at a CPS adoption event taking pictures of adorable kids who have recently come up for adoption. I can’t tell you how amazing it feels to be able to use my photography to help those kiddos. (More on that to come tomorrow.)

Then I came home to these guys.

And our neighbor and friends joined us. It was so much fun, and I just love being able to have our home (or backyard) full of people we care about and enjoy being around. Being able to fill my belly with crawfish was pretty good too!

Those little mudbugs are delicious, but they are mean too! This guy got in a fight with another crawfish (he won), and then he picked a fight with Tiffany (he won).

Then I snuck out to spend some time with these two (and their sweet fur-baby), taking their engagement photos.

As if that wasn’t enough, I came home to more friends in the house, and got to watch Peanut be mesmerized by an acoustic guitar played by her “uncle” (the best man from our wedding who just so happened to perform our first dance song live for us that day!) The slow grin that crept across her face a few seconds into the song just melted both of our hearts. Just priceless. As if my heart wasn’t puddled up enough, he then played us the song he wrote about our wedding day, and I literally had goosebumps.

Round out the weekend with some “me” time getting lost in a book (so glad I started one that sucked me in like I mentioned here), and crossing a few items off the to-do list, and I call it quite the successful weekend.

These are the times I really appreciate. Simple. Calm. Surrounded by family and friends. There were no major exciting events this weekend. Nothing out of the ordinary. But that doesn’t mean that my ordinarily wonderful weekend was any less wonderful, and I hope that never changes.  My heart is just so full of the blessings I’ve been given and the love that fills my world.

As I’ve gotten older, I have definitely come to appreciate those quiet moments when I can spend time with the people I love. My brother (who’s in college) thinks I’m “old” now, but I just smile because I know he’ll understand one day. It also makes me laugh because when I went home for breaks during college, I thought my parents were so OLD because they liked to sit quiet and go to bed early (you know, not a 3 a.m.). Oh how little I knew…
