As part of last year’s Yearly Bucket List, I challenged myself to refinish or repurpose a flea market/thrift store find. It worked out perfectly to cross that item off the list while making a really fun birthday surprise for Peanut.

I had mentioned to my mom that it would be fun to make a little play kitchen for Peanut, and she stumbled across the perfect white table at a Goodwill store for next-to-nothing. Add in a Little Tikes Play sink/stove, and we were in business!!

I enlisted the help of my dad to get the project rolling, and he was a HUGE help with everything. We started by taking the drawer off of the table to be able to cut the hole for the sink.

Dad was certainly the expert in this process, but I wanted to be sure to do some of the work too. We should have cut the hole bigger to begin with, but after lots of trimming, it ended up the perfect size to drop in the sink & put the drawer back on.

I wanted to be able to create a little curtain in front of the kitchen, so we went and picked out a bright, fun printed fabric & got to sewing. I just used a small suspension rod to hang the curtain, so the sewing part of the project was pretty simple. Just a few finishing seams on the edges, and one loop along the top to go over the rod and that was about it.

I made a panel for each end of the table, and two panels for the front so that we could store all of Peanut’s kitchen utensils & food underneath and they’d be easy for her to access.

The finished product most definitely isn’t perfect – there was already a crack in one side of the front, and the curtains aren’t exactly how I pictured them, but overall it’s a success!! And all the tiny little pots & pans that Peanut got on her birthday to go along with the kitchen? Adorable.
